New Brick Wall Completed in 2020

Construction of the new brick wall along Red Bug Lake Road was completed in May 2020, and the Doster Drive entrance will have lighting, irrigation, and plantings added to enhance the new signage on both sides of the entrance. The walk-in entrance at Todd Drive received new sod and irrigation, giving nearby residents a nice spot to relax. A park bench may be added in the near future.

NOTE: to those homeowners whose property backs up to the new wall, there is a permanent easement extending 3 FEET from the inside wall surface toward your house (to enable the SSHA to make repairs or do maintenance to the wall). This means no shrubs or trees may be grown within the 3-foot easement, and especially no trees with major root systems should be planted close to the 3-foot easement as roots could harm the foundation of the new wall. Also, no sheds or other structures can be built within the 3-foot easement or anything attached to or hung on the wall. IF homeowners plant trees/shrubs or install/attach anything within the 3-foot easement, those items can/will be removed at the homeowner's expense. These easement rules were agreed to by all homeowners at the beginning of the wall project.

Sausalito Shores - Built by

The Sausalito Shores neighborhood was developed and built in 1977 through 1983 by The Greater Construction Corporation. With the neighborhood's close proximity to State Route 436 and Red Bug Lake Road, Sausalito Shores remains a convenient and desirable place in which to live and raise a family.

Sausalito Shores was built as a non-gated subdivision of 279 single-family, one-story homes. The builder offered several different interior floorplans with different exterior trim features. Some floorplans included a sunken living room and fireplace. On many homes, the builder used exterior accents of natural coquina stone. Known as Florida's native stone, coquina stone is a sedimentary rock composed of small shells and shell fragments embedded in sand and naturally cemented with calcite. The only known coquina quarries are in eastern Florida and Barbados, but those resources are diminishing rapidly.

Original prices for homes in Sausalito Shores and other neighborhoods built by Greater Construction ranged from $60k to over $100k.

Greater Construction Corporation was one of the first builders in the area to use 'zero-lot-line' construction, in which smaller lots were more efficiently used by siting the house flush to, or near the side or rear lot lines. The smaller lots mean less yard maintenance, but still offer room for landscape plantings and turf.

DID YOU KNOW? Prior to European settlement in the 19th-century, Native American groups inhabited the Seminole County area, including land in present-day Casselberry. Casselberry was originally part of unincorporated Fern Park. Residents decided to incorporate Casselberry as a tax-free town in 1940, with the purpose of avoiding property taxes. The town was re-incorporated as a city in 1965, and property taxes were reinstated in 1976.

Today, Sausalito Shores is an established neighborhood with convenient access to major roadways. Our residents include young couples, families, and older adults -- we are diverse in age, race, and backgrounds and reflect the overall diversity of Central Florida's population. Membership provides many benefits including access to the clubhouse, picnic pavilion, surrounding park, and dock -- a neighborhood 'gathering place' -- a place where you can walk your dog, chat with a neighbor or relax and enjoy sunset views of the lake from the dock -- and then stroll back home.

• Insurance on all the common areas and buildings, and the new brick wall along Red Bug Lake Road
